Movie Review: In Darkness We Live

After a bank robbery gone wrong, the gang drives out of town to hide but they run out of a gas on a deserted road and go on foot deep into the woods. There they find an old dilapidated house occupied by a mysterious woman and her grandmother. As they insist on staying, the grandmother tells them that it is the night of Ang Kumakatok (Those Who Knock), a mythical being who takes away a soul from the occupants of the house they knock. As the dead of night unfolds, we realize who they all really are and when the knock comes, none of them can run away from an evil that stays in their soul.

The plot is incredibly intriguing, providing the most interesting take on what happen to the robbers after the robbery. The film is dark and bold, and leaves the viewer in awe on multiple occasions. Direk Chris also said that they have no script while doing this film and he just gives instructions to his casts. The actors of the film also give a stunning and memorable performance especially Mon Confiado, Alex Medina and Gerald Napoles. This film is not only  nail-bittingly suspenseful but also primed to blow your mind visually and logically. Watch out until the end when the story unfolds as it will be dropped like a bomb.

The deeper meanings and plot twists will keep you thinking about the movie and its implications for days. I feel that this movie wants you to get some perspective. This is a unique film. If you are tired of movies that seem to copy old ideas, then this movie is for you.

My Verdict:  3/5
