Movie Review: Islands

Islands explore a cinematic journey of two astronauts. As they enter Earth’s atmosphere the structure transforms. The spacecraft becomes the meteor from a myth of a tribesman; it triggers an old lady’s memory of a lover from her past. As these diverse characters converge in a plane of reality, we confront a particular form of gravity we covertly feel—falling in love.

A different kind of take on how to tackle the feelings of love. Towards the end of the film ay unti unting pinapadama sa iyo ang lalim ng pagiibigan ng isang lola sa kanyang dating minamahal with flashback sa isang island and matching involvement pa ng 2 astronaut up to the present tideepzme sa isang lalaki kung paano niya pinapadama ang pag-ibig sa babaeng minamahal.

So medyo may pagkadeep yung pelikula at ma long take yung pelikula.

Technicalities of the film, Production design is superb, editing and DOP are good. Artist performances are good from Merryl Soriano and Luis Alandy saf isang malalim na pagganap, Irma Adlawan and Ms. Marita Zobel sa isang mapusong pagganap, kay Benjamin Alves na very fit for his role as astronaut, challenging role for Benj dahil puro nuances ang kailangan sa mga eksena niya and Acey Aguilar and Ana Luna para sa natural na pagganap. I got super affected on the last line of the film.

This is not your ordinary local love story match with unconventional treatment and style of film making.

My Verdict:  3/5

Luis Alandy @ premiere of Islands

Meryl Soriano @ premiere of Islands

Direk Whammy Alcazaren with Preque Gallaga @ premiere of Islands
