Movie Review: Iskalawags

One day, in the small peaceful town of Barrio Malinawon, seven young punks, who call themselves the Iskalawags because of their shared love for Filipino action movies (particularly those starred by their idol Jeric Raval), decide to set out on a mini quest to find the tree that according to Palot—the gang’s de facto leader—bears the lone papaya fruit as large as the belly of Intoy’s father.

A film tribute to one of the popular action star in 90’s Jeric Raval. Another film this festival inspired by another film genre this time the 90’s action flick. The main action stars are imitated by a group of children that made this got a cute concept. And they call themselves the Iskalawags. Nakakaaliw yung pelikula kasi nakakatawa yung mga bata na umaakting na mga action star. Tumalakay din ang pelikula sa tunay na kalagayan ng mga kabataan sa Camotes Island. The whole language of the film was in a Visayan language thus making this film more provincial.

Ok yung approach ng film, kung paano nila inaaply yung 90’s action flick at the same time may kwento din na tinalakay tungkol sa mga bata. Ayos din yun acting ng mga bata. All in all the film is good. If you are looking for something new and different to watch to this festival and if you do miss the local action film you will enjoy watching this.

My Verdict:  3/5
