Movie Review: The Chanters

Sarah Mae, a 12-year-old school girl, is the grand daughter of the last remaining chanter of the Panay Bukidnon tribe. But instead of learning their culture, she is obsessed with pop culture and readies herself for the visit of a sensational TV star to her school. As she perfects her dance, her grandfather, Lolo Ramon suffers the onset of dementia. As her Lolo starts losing his precious memories, Sarah Mae is tasked to help him complete the last of the remaining 12 epics, their tribe’s vanishing tradition.

The surprise for me in this year QCinema 2017 Circle competition. Its charming leads and story is the edge of this film that surely captivate the hearts of the audience. The film lets you appreciate more of our cultural values and embrace our grandparents to make them feel our love and their importance in our life. The simplicity of the film makes its more powerful to deliver its message.

My Verdict: 3.5/5
