Movie Review: Malamaya

A pessimistic, uninspired middle-aged artist finds spark with a millennial amateur photographer who leads her on a road of creative and sexual awakening.  Nora Simeon, a 50-year-old, single visual artist, feels passe. As she recaptures her prime, she finds spark with Migs, an aspiring photographer who helps reignite her forgotten passions and elicits bursts of inspiration. As she embarks on a May-December love affair, Nora fails to notice how Migs invades her space and senses and, eventually, her art and body.

Malamaya stand out with is unique aesthetic and visual feels that will give you a good cinematic experience. I appreciate its effort on telling new story about artists with refreshing take on modern relationship. I love the symbolism, mirroring of characters to its own arts and its creative process on telling a story. I love the approach of Sunshine Cruz and Enzo Pineda on their characters. I love the dynamics of their chemistry in this film. I did not expect that Enzo can act this good for this film. Malamaya offers something new and  they succeed on their intentions on giving an understandable artsy fartsy film.

My Verdict:  4/5
