Review: Past, Present, Perfect?

A writer who is facing a major roadblock in her career and life looks to her past – including her first love and heartbreak – to move forward in her present. in the iWant original series “Past, Present, Perfect?,” which is now streaming for free on iWant. The digital series, which stars Loisa Andalio and Shaina Magdayao as the young and old Shantal, takes viewers back to their high school days, post-college ambitions, and puppy love conquests.

A student with a gift for words, Shantal uses her talent to woo her crush, her high school professor Daniel (Vin Abrenica), by secretly writing him poems and declarations of love. As they become close because of their love for literature, Daniel, recognizing her potential, urges her to pursue her dream of becoming an award-winning writer. Shantal’s world is turned upside down when she confesses her feelings for Daniel and gets rejected at their graduation ball.

In the present, Shantal navigates adulthood and struggles to pay for her bills by translating text books and subtitling porn – a far cry from her dream to write poetry and novels. Things go awry for Shantal when she experiences writer’s block, unable to come up with a solid follow-up to her first successful romance pocket book.

Will Shantal be able to find renewed faith in herself and write the stories she wants to tell? What lessons from her past will help her shape the future chapters of her life?

Past, Present, Perfect? is one of the original series in iWant the I definitely got hooked and finish immediately the whole series from episode 1 to 7. It offers something new to the table in the landscape of original Philippine streaming series in terms of story telling, level of kilig, treatment, looks and feels. The cast delivers an ensemble acting that perfectly fit to their role. For me this is Shaina's best performance and best acting project to date.

Loisa on the other hand contrast with Shaina's sincere performance as she gives young vibe to the series that every high school woman can relate. I'm also rooting for the tandem and story of  Loisa Andalio and Elijah Canlas in the series.  Past, Present, Perfect? is one of the best iWant originals. Realistic, Relatable and Fresh! I really hope that it will get a sequel or another content should be made by the brilliant writer and director Dwein Baltazar.

My Verdict: 4/5
