Movie Review: Iska

A loving but impoverished grandmother of an autistic child tragicomically loses everything and turns into someone society reckons her to be. Iska, a grandmother who wants to take her 10-year-old autistic grandson to a special needs orphanage, is deemed an unfit guardian by the media and the government. Despite dealing with life’s blows one after the other, she never loses her tenacity to survive.

Iska is a heartwarming story of a grandmother showing unconditional love to her grandson. A tailor made film to Ruby Ruiz that surely a strong contender for best Actress for this festival. I’ve never expected that an actress could win an award by just counting from 1-100. Watch out for that scene, as that scene alone could easily gave her an acting nod for this film. Even Soliman Cruz and the kid Jonic Magno is so good on this film. Iska sparked so many emotions and will surely make you grounded as a human being.  It is beautiful story with its worthy intentions and masterful study of humanity.

My Verdict:  3.5/5
