Review: Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank 3: The Real Untold Story of Josephine Bracken

The satirical comedy, Ang Babae sa Septic Tank, is back for a third installment. After making a parody of poverty porn and mainstream romances, “Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank” is back on its third installment, this time taking a swipe at historical revisionism with comic Eugene Domingo playing herself as a director and main actress in a Josephine Bracken biopic.

The Marlon Rivera-helmed satire, “Ang Babae sa Septic Tank 3: The Real Untold Story of Josephine Bracken,” shows Eugene “Uge” Domingo’s megalomaniacal and egotistical version of herself discussing the appropriation of facts in art.

Having “conquered” the world of acting, Eugene Domingo’s character attempts to push her boundaries as an artist by directing, starring in, and producing her own film about Josephine Bracken--famously known as national hero Jose Rizal’s mysterious lover. Direk Euge’s journey in producing “The Real Untold Story of Josephine Bracken” is a comedic one that ultimately ends in disaster, but what stands out more than her ridiculous persona is the character’s allusion to the role people play in producing fake news and revising history.

Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank 3 is such a hilarious streaming series to watch for. If your a film lover, staff and crew of the film and has a knowledge in making a film, you will definitely relate and can understand more this satirical entertaining comedy series. No wonder when  Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank 3 got a one time screening at Cinemalaya 2019, almost all of the audience laugh every 10 minutes and the crowd I witness while watching is one of the most invested or attentive crowd that I experienced recently while watching inside a movie theater. Eugene Domingo  just nailed her character much especially when she acts as a "Ms. Know Everything" director in the set. Joey Reyes is a revelation and a surprise actor in this series.

The rivalry of Mylene Dizon and Joanna Ampil in this series is a gem and one of the best rivalry I've seen. The two are really a scene stealer, and also something to watch our for in this series. The other supporting cast are also relevant in the series from Mercedes Cabral, Nico Antonio, Natileigh Sitoy, Sunshine Teodoro, Tony Labrusca, Sue Prado, Che Ramos, Elora Españo, up to Adrienne Vergara and Lao Rodriguez. Each of them have their own shining moment. With the fine direction of Marlon Rivera and clever screenplay by Chris Martinez, Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank 3 is for me the most well made series of iWant to date. Kudos to iWant for bringing this kind of original, entertaining and brilliant content to watch for. The last statement of Eugene Domingo in this series is one of the strong message that I got in a film or series that I got affected and reflect on after watching. Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank 3 is not just a pure entertainment but also a social commentary.

My Verdict: 4.5/5
