Movie Review: Taklub

After the Supertyphoon Haiyan, which changed the city of Tacloban in the Philippines into its horrendous state, the lives of Bebeth, Larry and Erwin intertwine. The survivors are left to search for the dead, while keeping their sanity intact, and protecting what little faith there may be left. A series of events continue to test their endurance.

What a way to open the 20th year of French Film Festival by giving us a film that still fresh from the success of Cannes Film Festival as one of the selected film in Un Certain Regard Category.  A fine masterpiece from Director Brillante Mendoza that really capture the lives of Yolanda survivors with resounding performance from the great actress Nora Aunor that effectively portrays her character as one of the Yolanda survivors that still fighting in life and hopes to cope up in losing loved ones. A one of a kind, intense, subtle and exceptional acting that will surely gave her another best actress recognition. As truth as it is the film really shows us the real story and emotions of Yolanda survivors by showing scenes that will surely broke your heart with an unconventional storytelling and detailed lens of camera that points a good cinematography and gave us audience a visual pleasure while absorbing a significant story our fellow countrymen. I consider this as one of the best film of director Brillante Mendoza.

My Verdict: 4/5
