Third World Romance (Love on a Budget),” focuses on the story of Britney, an outspoken grocery cashier, and Alvin, a laid-back grocery bagger, who seek the difficult goal of being happy and content despite the harsh realities of their blue-collared lives and the bleak background of the pandemic. But when Britney faces a choice between love and survival, she realizes that happiness comes with a great cost.
Third World Romance is a feel good romcom movie that is grounded by
social issues. It's nice that it tackles the story of the two leads that
are both ordinary citizens living in a simple life. For sure the masa
crowd will definitely relate to the story of the two. Carlo Aquino and
Charlie Dizon are both good actors that just embrace their characters
and act naturally. The two have chemistry and just make their dialogue
fly with kilig and authenticity. and Carlo Aquino is definitely the in
demand leading man for the obvious reason that he acts well and can nail
every character given to him. In this film, he is just a boyfriend that
you would like to have in your life. Charlie Dizon is so great in this
film that she stands out and you will feel the pain and hardship that
she had in her life. She delivers well in comedy giving us the fine
share of laughter naturally. The production value of the film is also
noteworthy from the cinematography that effectively uses the one long
continuous take on its crucial scene for the emotions to be felt
continuously up to the production design that effectively evoke the
theme and layers of the film. Third World Romance is funny and heartfelt
and it caters to the fans of rom com films. Overall I can say that I'm
happy that finally a beautiful Filipino romcom is back on the big screen
and this is definitely a must see!
My Verdict: 5/5
