Movie Review: Nuuk

Elaisa Svendsen (Alice Dixson) a Filipina who lives in Nuuk, Greenland is in despair after her husband dies. With nothing but alcohol and medicine to depend on, Elaisa becomes miserable, then one day, she crosses paths with Mark Alvarez (Aga Muhlach), a fellow Filipino who is almost the same age as her. Mark becomes Elaisa’s friend, She confides and feels at ease around him, and eventually starts to fall for him. Things are finally starting to get better for Elaisa because of Mark, until a mystery comes along, it appears that nobody recognizes Mark but Elaisa.

It’s nice to see Aga Muhlach and Alice Dixson in this quiet and subtle mystery drama that will keep you intrigued from start to beginning. It’s pleasant to see in the big screen the beautiful cinematography of the film, utilizing its picturesque location, Nuuk. Alice and Aga had their shining moment that proves that they still have the brilliance in acting. Though the film takes time to build up, its worth the wait as the last part of the film was really a shocking surprise treat. Nuuk takes an interesting, surreal turn and tackles relevant family and social issues that worth seeing.

My Verdict: 3.5/5
