Movie Review: My Lady Boss

Evelyn (Marian Rivera) is your regular boss from hell. Zach (Richard Gutierrez) is your regular rich boy living the life, a party animal and has commitment issues.  In a twist of fate, Zach ends up working for Evelyn when she hires him as her Asst. Brand Manager. Immediately, there is a personality clash between the two.  Evelyn is brokenhearted.  When Zach witnesses Evelyn’s breakdown after getting dumped, he sees a more vulnerable side to Evelyn. An attraction between them ensues. A little flirting ends up in a kiss. And then the kiss leads to more encounters. As these encounters become more intimate, they begin to question how they feel for each other. But how will they deal with the situation of them being boss and subordinate working in a company where office romance is prohibited? In the end, Zach and Evelyn have to decide what matters to them the most; they need to figure out if love has become a liability or something they can look forward nurturing.

People working in a corporate world can relate on this film as it also shows the reality and a typical day of an employee. Breadwinners of the family can also relate on this film as it tackles situation on how to balance life, family career and love life. That’s why na touch at naka relate ako on most of the scenes of the movie especially on Marian’s character. The story is common and predictable but the good thing about the movie is the different treatment and approach that they deliver  in this film. I also appreciate the chemistry of the two as I am hoping that this will not be their last film together. You will enjoy watching this film.

Maayos ang pagkakagawa ng pelikula. Fast paced, funny and brilliant direction from Jade Castro.  I will add Jade as the rosters of directors that I will watch to dahil maganda din ang previous movie niya na Juana Change.Screenplay is commendable ,characters  are well established, no dull moment. Marian Rivera really masters the craft of comedy as she really has a good timing in comedy and acts naturally on this film. She also delivers on her dramatic scenes. In fairness to Richard Gutierrez he also delivers on this film at nagpakita ng galing sa comedy. Supporting cast is good as well like Matet (na suki na as support ng mga romcom film dahil mahusay naman), Sef , Betong, Roco, Ruru and Petra the funny girl. DOP is ok as I noticed full of close up shot on this film.

Finally GMA films has been able to create a quality romcom genre for this film after several years.  I will commend everyone to watch this film as this will not be a waste your time, watching an enjoyable relatable quality romantic comedy film. One of the good mainstream films that I watch this year.

My Verdict:  4/5
