Movie Review: Babagwa

Babagwa is about the web of lies that people create in order to trick unsuspecting victims. An Internet scammer named Greg (Alex Medina) uses a fake Facebook account to trick people into depositing money into his bank account.

Babagwa is an enjoyable film to watch to. It has element para pakapitin ka into the story and you will anticipate to wath each scene na susunod. Tahimik lang ang pelikula wala masyadong scoring yet its effective para macapture ang mensahe ng pelikula. I appreciate kung paano pinahalagahan ang Pampanga dito from its language, place and culture it was utilize well.

So the movie basically tell us the story of an online scammer kung paano sila nangbibiktima at kung pinakita din ang sitwasyon ng mga nabiktima. So for those engaging in this kind of activity at para doon sa mga nabiktima they will surely relate in the film.
Screenplay is good. DOP is consistent all throughout the film. The color theme of the movie is blue and it blends well sa story and nakita rin siya sa feel and texture ng film. I have some concern sa editing and continuity ng film as I noticed na may mga eksena na biglang maiksi yung buhok ni Alex na parang isiningit lang sa movie but that’s a minor flaws only. Then the movie was started quiet slow paced pero unti unti nagbubuild up na yung story may musical scoring na then pagdating sa climax talagang you will hold on it at kakapitan mo. Watch out for the breakdown scene of Joe Paras and Alex Medina that was so very very intense sagutan and fight, galing!

I also appreciated the alter ego thing na ginamit sa movie that was so creative and new to me. I understand its purpose cause madami ngang layers yung mga character sa film.
Alex Medina is so hilarious in this film grabe then din yung range ng character na pinkita niya from a serious one to a baliw baliwan mode with his girlfriend grabe that was so fantastic. His acting was very raw and natural mahusay at na justify niya ang character. Kiko is ok in his role. Ms. Alma was also good here bagay sa kanya yung role and a good comeback vehicle for her. To Joey Paras he is good and I know that mahusay siya though he has tendency na mag overacting and mag outstage ng co actors niya but he is definitely good.

This movie will show us the story that truly happens in the society. Watch out for the ending of this film panalo din. The movie is worth of your time watching you will hook up in the story. You will definitely get the message of the film. A good balance of mainstream and indie spirit in the film.

My Verdict: 3/5
