‘How To Get Away From My Toxic Family’ and two Filipino films lead this week’s lineup

THE Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has granted permits for public exhibition to three locally-produced films.

Leading the lineup is the “How To Get Away From My Toxic Family,” starring Zanjoe Marudo.  It is produced by OgieD Productions.

The film received a PG (Parental Guidance) rating, suitable for viewers 13 years old and below provided they are accompanied by their parents or supervising adults.

The movie tackles themes of family love, struggles and challenges, centered around the life of an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who is the family’s breadwinner.

Also rated PG is “Lasting Moments,” starring Sue Ramirez and JM de Guzman, and is directed by Fifth Solomon. Shot in Manila and Singapore, “Lasting Moments” explores the challenges of a couple navigating their love, life and career.

The Psychological thriller, “P77,” also known as Penthouse 77, stars Barbie Forteza, as a former OFW, who encounters malevolent forces hiding in a luxurious apartment building.

The film is rated R-13 (Restricted-13), making it suitable for audiences aged 13 and above.

“These films reflect the richness of Filipino storytelling and highlight the realities and values of our people,” said MTRCB Chairperson and CEO Lala Sotto-Antonio. “Through our age-appropriate classification, we aim to empower viewers, especially parents, to make informed decisions and enjoy movies that’s suitable for their families.”

The MTRCB has also approved the exhibition of the following foreign films with corresponding age appropriate ratings:

- “Forever We Are Young,” a documentary film featuring South Korean boy band BTS, rated G (General Audience) suitable for all ages.

- “The Bad Guys 2,” an animated heist comedy film, rated PG.

- “I Know What You Did Last Summer” and “The Home,” both American horror-thrillers are R-16 (Restricted-16) due to mature themes, frightening scenes and violence, suitable only for viewers aged 16 and above.

Last week, despite the heavy rains, the MTRCB reviewed and rated four films: Marvel’s “Fantastic Four: First Steps” and the Vietnamese horror-comedy “The Ancestral Home,” both rated PG; the Korean horror film “Incarnation,” rated R-13; and the Filipino film “Sunshine,” rated R-16.

The MTRCB remains committed to supporting local filmmakers while promoting responsible viewing through its age-appropriate rating and classification.
