The Quezon City Film Commission (QCFC) and QCinema International Film
Festival are excited to announce the selected projects for the second
edition of the QCinema Project Market (QPM). 20 outstanding projects
were chosen from a competitive pool of 63 submissions from the
Philippines and Southeast Asia.
The selected projects from
Southeast Asia include The Beer Girl in Yangon, directed by Sein Lyan
Tun and produced by Yulia Bhara, representing Myanmar and Indonesia;
Picturehouse, directed by Minh-Nghiem Nguyen-Vo and produced by Johann
Chapelan from Vietnam; Future Laobans, directed by Maung Sun and
produced by Emmanuel Angeles, offering a perspective from Myanmar; To
Leave, To Stay, directed by Danech San and produced by Daniel Mattes,
hailing from Cambodia; Other People's Dreams, directed by Daniel Hui
with producers Tan Si En and Joel Neo, representing Singapore; The
Passport, directed by Ananth Subramaniam and produced by Choo Mun Bel
from Malaysia; and I'll Smile in September, directed by Aakash Chhabra
and produced by Fran Borgia, which brings together talents from
Singapore and India.
The Filipino projects selected are Anak Alon
(Daughters of the Sea), directed by Martika Ramirez Escobar and
produced by Rajiv Idnani; Molder, directed by Kenneth Dagatan with
producers Bradley Liew and Junxiang Huang; My Neighbor the Gangster,
directed by Mario Cornejo and produced by Monster Jimenez and Jon
Romulo; Bato Bato Sa Langit Ang Tamaan Magagalit (Heaven Help Us),
directed by Eve Baswel with producers John Torres and Jules Katanyag;
Baradero (A Ship of Fools), directed by Keith Deligero and produced by
Gale Osorio; and Golden, directed by JP Habac and produced by Omar
Sortijas and Catsi Catalan.
The lineup also includes Lihim Na
Luha (Secret Cries), directed by Eileen Cabiling and produced by Darlene
Malimas and Jericho Rosales; Inahing Baka (Mother Maybe), directed by
Sonny Calvento and produced by Arden Rod Condez and Sheron Dayoc; Please
Bear With Me, directed by Gabriela Serrano and produced by Gale Osorio
and Keith Deligero; Angel De Dios, directed by Joel Ruiz and produced by
Madonna Tarrayo; Hum, directed by Don Josephus Raphael Eblahan and
produced by Alemberg Ang and Hannah Schierbeek; Ewa (Eve), directed by
Keith Sicat and produced by Sari Dalena; and The Returning, directed by
Atsuko Hirayanagi and produced by Will Manalang and Eiko Mizuno Gray.
These
projects will compete for various prestigious grants and prizes,
collectively valued at approximately 300,000 USD. This includes the
QPM-PH Co-Production Grant, which will award three Filipino projects
with 2 million pesos each, and the QPM-SEA Co-Production Prize, which
will give one Southeast Asian project 1 million pesos, plus two
additional projects will receive 750,000 cash each.
Other prizes
include the Mocha Chai Award, offering comprehensive post-production
services valued at up to 50,000 USD, and the CMB Discovery Award,
providing film equipment rental support worth 1,000,000 million and PHP
500,000. The Kongchak Studio Award offers 10,000 USD in sound
post-production services, while the Central Digital Lab Award provides
color correction support for two projects worth 10,000 USD each. The
Barebones Award will grant color correction support worth 14,000 USD to
two Southeast Asian and two Filipino projects. The T6xBB Award offers
post-production services worth 14,000 USD for one Filipino and one
Southeast Asian project. Additionally, the BIFAN+ Award will enable one
project to participate in the NAFF Project Market in 2025, and the
TAICCA Award includes a cash prize worth 5,000 USD.
The QCinema
Project Market is a platform for filmmakers and producers to connect,
secure funding, expand their networks, gain exposure, and develop their
pitching skills. It aims to support the creation of innovative and
globally relevant films, contributing to the growth and development of
the regional and international film industry.
The event will be
held from November 14 to 16, 2024, during the 12th QCinema International
Film Festival in Quezon City, Philippines.
Last year’s QPM
witnessed remarkable achievements, with selected projects gaining
significant momentum in their production and international recognition.
Notable examples include Filipiniana by Rafael Manuel and Fox King by
Woo Ming Jin, both now in post-production. Tale of the Land is gearing
up for its world premiere at the Busan Film Festival. The Sea is Calm
Tonight is scheduled to begin shooting in November, and Don't Cry
Butterfly is set to have its world premiere at Venice Critics Week,
drawing international attention and affirming the global influence of
films supported by QPM.
