Fans of Maja Salvador and Paulo Avelino
were treated to a big surprise with the exclusive first-look of the pair’s
much-anticipated upcoming film “I’m Drunk, I Love You”. The two-minute
behind-the-scenes teaser video was presented during Salvador’s concert held
last Saturday.
It has been more than a year since Avelino and Salvador
worked together for an on-screen project. This time, the two reunite in an
unlikely love story.
Helmed by JP Habac in his feature-length directorial debut
with a screenplay co-written with Giancarlo Abrahan, the film explores the
story of two college best friends who go
on one last road trip where they settle how they really feel for each other.
But unlike most romantic-comedies, the director is quick to point out that this
is not your typical love story.
“We have
been overexposed with love stories that have convenient happy endings, filled
with hope. [But] not all love stories have the ‘meet-cutes’, ‘that pleasant
surprises’ [that] await every turn,” Habac shares.
He also
added that love, while wondrous, is almost always accompanied by misery. It’s
this kind of complex story that Habac feels a lot of people, the youth in
particular, who would find the film relatable. His lead stars completely agree.
“When I read the script, I knew I immediately wanted to be
part of this. [The story] kasi it’s something new. Lahat ng tao, lahat ng
girls, for sure makaka-relate sila dito. Dahil [at some point] I’m sure na
experience nila yung na-experience ng character ko,” Salvador says of her role
as Carson, a young woman who have been pining for her best friend played by
Avelino.
Aside from the film’s intriguing storyline, Salvador and
Avelino are excited to share to their followers the different dynamics
presented by their characters’ relationship.
“It’s totally different from our previous project,” Avelino pointed
out. “It’s not just a love story, [it’s also about] the companionship of
friends.”
“But the chemistry is definitely there,” he shares with a
smile. “The kilig moments [are] still
going to be there.”
The film is still currently in production, but as early as
now, both actors promise their followers a slew of surprises in the next coming
months.
“I’m Drunk, I Love You” is produced by TBA (Tuko Film
Productions, Buchi Boy Entertainment, Artikulo Uno Productions), the same team
behind the critically acclaimed film “Heneral Luna”.
