MTRCB assigns PG, R-13 ratings to this week’s films

 

THE Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has given Parental Guidance (PG) and R-13 ratings to eight films and a live viewing of a South Korean boy band’s concert in the United States.

 

MTRCB Chair and CEO Lala Sotto expressed optimism that this week’s offerings will attract more audiences to cinemas, as she reminded parents of their crucial role in supervising their children’s viewing habits.

 

“Karamihan sa mga tampok na palabas sa mga sinehan ay may PG at R-13 rating. Ibig sabihin, mas maraming batang makakapanood bastat may patnubay ng kanilang mga magulang,” she said.

 

“Nais naming ipaalala sa mga magulang na tingnan muna ang mga classification ng MTRCB para sila ay makasiguro na angkop ang panonoorin ng kanilang mga anak sa edad at antas ng pag-intindi,” Sotto added.

 

“The End of Oak Street,” a science fiction starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor, was rated PG.

 

The MTRCB strongly advised parents that the movie may be unsuitable for children below seven years old “because of some scenes of intense violence, frightening situations, bloody images and gore arising from dinosaur-related survival encounters.”

 

The Agency said its elements of action, peril, frightening scenes and some gore are presented within a “clearly fictional, fantasy-adventure setting and are not gratuitous or excessively prolonged.”

 

“The film’s dominant treatment remains family-oriented, emphasizing survival, courage, unity and the importance of staying together in the face of danger,” it added.

 

“Blue Lock,” a live action adaptation of a Japanese soccer manga, was rated PG and will be exclusively shown in SM Cinemas. It has competitive sports themes, mild sports-related violence, emotional conflict and brief coarse language that may require parental guidance for younger viewers.

 

“Dear You,” a Chinese drama and another SM Cinemas exclusive, was rated R-13. Although it has themes such as the heartfelt exploration of family bonds, migration, and separation and love for family, its mild and infrequent swear, cuss words and menacing language may require parental supervision and guidance for viewers below 13 years old.

 

Starring Dan Ewing, Tim Pocock and Jessica Green, the horror “The Devil Beneath” was rated R-13 for its “brief and infrequent depiction of horror and frightening scenes” that require parental supervision and guidance for viewers under 13 years old. It will be exclusively shown in Megaworld Cinemas.

 

“Sacrifice,” an action-adventure comedy that has an ensemble cast that includes Chris Evans, Salma Hayek and Anya Taylor-Joy, was similarly rated R-13 for its “mild action violence, shootings, stabbings and bloody injuries.”

 

The Agency said its sustained suspense, disturbing ritualistic imagery, frequent use of strong swear words, coarse language and other mature themes may be inappropriate for viewers below 13 years old.

 

“Just Javier,” a Spanish documentary about Javier Sartorius Milans del Bosch, a missionary who left an aristocratic lifestyle to be a man of faith, was rated PG. It will be exclusively shown in Ayala Malls Cinemas.

 

“While said film does not contain graphic violence, sexual activity, nudity, drug use or offensive language and is suitable for viewers of all ages, some of its spiritual and reflective discussions may be better understood and appreciated by younger audiences with the guidance of parents and guardians,” the MTRCB said.

 

“Nimrods: A Green Day Comedy” is a coming-of-age road comedy to be exclusively shown in SM Cinemas. It stars Mason Thames, Mckenna Grace and Jenna Fischer and was rated R-13 for its strong and coarse language, scenes of teenage drinking and drug use and reckless acts.

 

Meanwhile, the MTRCB gave a PG rating to “KATSEYE: Wild Hearts,” another SM Cinemas exclusive that features behind-the-scenes videos and interviews with members of KATSEYE, a Los Angeles-based girl group.

 

The “CORTIS Tour <Put Your Phone Down> in LA” was rated PG as well. It is a live viewing of the South Korean boy band’s concert.

 

A G or General Audience rating means a film is suitable for all ages, while PG or Parental Guidance means a parent or guardian must be present to supervise younger viewers.

 

An R-13 means a film is suitable for viewers aged 13 and up, while an R-16 is for 16 years old and above. An R-18 is for adult audiences only.
