All good words between Maricel Soriano and Bela Padilla, who lead Viva Films’ upcoming drama Life After You, directed by Marla Ancheta.
Bela did not hesitate to accept the project because, for her, it was an honor to work with the Diamond Star, Maricel Soriano. She shared how generous Maricel was when it came to acting together, and how she gave her plenty of advice—not only about acting and her career, but even about her love life.
Bela also admires Maricel’s comedic antics and sense of humor. In fact, she recalled a scene involving an albularyo where Maricel delivered so many ad-libs that Bela could not stop herself from laughing. It was one of those fun moments that showed the lighter side of their working relationship despite the emotional nature of the film.
Maricel, meanwhile, had nothing but praise for Bela. Despite being in the industry for so many years, Maricel remains relevant, humble, and open to working with a new generation of artists.
The Life After You mediacon also became somewhat of a memory lane for Maricel, as members of the media looked back on some of her memorable projects with Viva throughout her long and successful career.
When it comes to choosing her projects at this stage of her career, Maricel said that as long as she feels something in the script, she will not turn it down. That was also one of the reasons she said yes to Life After You.
Maricel also expressed how much she liked Bela’s raw and natural approach to acting. For her, Bela’s performance feels real and honest, especially when it comes to portraying the emotions required by the story.
And while Maricel continues to take on dramatic roles, she admitted that she also misses doing comedy and would love to do another comedy project, whether for film or a series.
A Story About Family, Motherhood, and Unconditional Love
Life After You marks the first-ever film collaboration between Diamond Star Maricel Soriano and Bela Padilla, bringing together two of the most acclaimed dramatic actresses of their generation.
The film centers on the emotional journey of women who grow into maternal figures—not because they are expected to, but because they choose to. It explores family, motherhood, friendship, forgiveness, and the true meaning of unconditional love.
Maricel plays Bella, a widow, mother, and grandmother who will do everything she can to show her love for her granddaughter. Bela, meanwhile, portrays Joey, a loving and devoted sister and aunt who is forced to put her dreams on hold to take care of her niece.
The story revolves around Denise, played by Dani Zee, Joey’s niece and the daughter of her sister Dianne, portrayed by Ryza Cenon. Denise is also Bella’s granddaughter through her unico hijo, Carl, played by Marlo Mortel, who refuses to acknowledge Denise as his child.
Joey and Dianne carry a deep resentment toward Bella for failing to convince her son to accept Denise. But when an unexpected tragedy shakes their world, Bella and Joey are given a chance to get to know each other.
Joey eventually discovers that Bella quietly considers Denise her granddaughter and wants to be part of her life while keeping it a secret from her son. Bella and Joey agree to share the responsibility of caring for Denise, and as they spend more time together, the two women eventually grow closer.
But everything changes when Carl finds out.
Joining Maricel Soriano and Bela Padilla are Marlo Mortel, Ryza Cenon, Krissha Viaje, MJ Cayabyab, Andrea Babierra, Peach Caparas, Gardo Versoza, and Rey PJ Abellana, who bring more depth and emotion to this highly anticipated family drama.
Directed by Marla Ancheta, Life After You promises a deeply moving story about family, the sacrifices we make for the people we love, and the kind of unconditional love that goes beyond expectations.
