The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has rated seven films set to hit the big screen this first week of December 2024.
The animated film “Trapezium” and the concert movie, “Laufey's A Night at the Symphony: Hollywood Bowl,” both distributed by Silver Line Multi Media, were rated PG (Parental Guidance).
PG films require parents to guide their children 12 years old and below.
The same rating was given to “RM: Right People, Wrong Place,” a documentary that explores the life of Korean superstar and BTS' leader RM or Kim Namjoon.
The epic historical sequel “Gladiator II,” starring Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal, received an R-16 for its intense battle scenes and mature themes.
“Dirty Money,” a Korean action-crime-drama movie, and “Heretic,” a psychological thriller that explores faith, manipulation, and religious conviction, also earned R-16 classification, suited for 16 years old and above.
The local film “Celestina: Burlesk Dancer,” from Viva Communications has two ratings of R-16 and R-18. Under R-18, only 18 years old and above are allowed to watch the film. The review committee of Jose Alberto, Eloisa Matias, and Maria Carmen Musngi said the movie is R-18 because of its mature theme, some violence, profanities, and numerous sex scenes.
MTRCB Chairperson and CEO Lala Sotto-Antonio reiterated the Board’s commitment to ensure that all films are reviewed and classified responsibly.
“Through these classifications, we aim to protect Filipino viewers, particularly the youth, while encouraging responsible media consumption,” Sotto-Antonio said, emphasizing that the Board is working closely with its stakeholders to ensure that all films align with its standards for age-appropriateness and Filipino cultural values.
