The film is a heartwarming comedy about friendship and second chances.
It charts about the struggles of Becky and Badette, two high school best
friends, who in their mid-40s, are still struggling to make ends meet
but they never lose hope in their dream of one day becoming famous
celebrities. In their high school reunion, they are reluctant to tell
people that they have amounted to nothing and fabricate the most
incredible lies about themselves, becoming the target of envious people,
particularly a former schoolmate who is mean and refuses to see them
succeed. Adding to the conflict is the re-emergence of the incredibly
charming and smooth-talking Pepe, who broke both their hearts in high school. Soon Becky and Badette find
themselves entangled in a love triangle, competing against each other
for Pepe's love and attention. Are they risking their friendship for a
man that could burn them both?
Becky and Badette is a queer comedy with a sense and with hilariously
funny performances by Eugene Domingo & Pokwang. The film is fun and
delivers a lot of laughs. I love the homage and reference they use for
classic Filipino films. You never go wrong in Pokwang and Eugene in giving fun and laughter. So happy that Eugene Domingo is back on her core as a comedy actress. With its witty screenplay and good timing in comedy, both of them dive fully into their roles. Becky
& Badette is a solid funny and witty raunchy comedy that pushed new
ground for female-led comedies with its raunchy humor, sharp dialogue,
and a deeper story about friendship and queer and holding onto your
passions through the mundane realities of the world. If you are a film lover, you will definitely enjoy and love this film.
My Verdict: 4/5
