Movie Review: Everything About Her

"Everything About Her" highlights the importance of family during hard times, and how these obstacles bring forth understanding and forgiveness. It follows the story of a successful businesswoman named Vivian (Vilma Santos), who learned that she is suffering from stage 3 cancer. She then hires a private nurse, Jaica (Angel Locsin), to take care of her. But she's bound to play a bigger role in Vivian's life as she becomes the bridge between the mother and her son Albert (Xian Lim), who have felt neglected all his life. How will the three change and be changed by their circumstances?

Everything About Her serves as a powerful showcase for Vilma Santos Angel Locsin and Xian Lim dramatic range, and comic timing. Bernal's smart direction are matched by assured performances of the three lead cast balancing heartfelt emotion with clear-eyed drama. Wickedly hilarious and delightfully heartwarming that will make you laugh and cry at the same time.

In stage of her career, it's so amazing that Vilma still has the brilliance in acting. She made me cry multiple times in this film for her touching and effective performance. On the other hand, Angel Locsin proves that she is not only a good dramatic actress but also a witty actress. She showed her versatility here and I appreciate her natural performance. Xian Lim shows in this film that he can act well and can match the acting performance of the two great actresses of their generation. Even the supporting cast are so good in this film. What I like about the film is being light and at the same time will move you through it's story. This touching film is an eye opener for the parent and son relationship.

Overall, Everything About Her is emotionally affecting but not manipulative, eye-opening without being exploitative, and funny at times without relying on quirk. This is an awesome opening salvo of Star Cinema for 2016. A must watch.

My Verdict: 4/5
