Movie Review: Tumbang Preso

Carlo, a smart 14-year old boy and his younger female cousin were promised restaurant work with a scholarship in the capital, Manila but ended up as slaves in a sardines factory. Children’s hands are small so they fit well into the can. Their hands are bloody but consumers don’t notice. The sauce is red.
He plays a game of manipulation and deceit with the owners of the factory and navigate around the complex power-play there. It culminates in a dangerous plan to escape where life and freedom are in the balance.

Maganda ang mensahe na gustong sabihin ng pelikula. I appreciate their advocacy for making us aware on human trafficking. There are many symbolic scenes in the film that relates on how the lives of the people in factory, their product, situation and work connected. I also like the style that they did in the lightning as it depicts the mood of the character in the film. The new teen actor Kokoy De Santos portray his role effectively. Mahusay siya bilang baguhan. It’s good to know that the Cinefilipino Best Actress Teri Malvar is also part of the film that she adds glamour to the film at isa rin sa mahusay sa pelikulang ito.

My Verdict: 3/5
