TBA Studios’ Epic Biopic “Quezon” Premieres Nationwide This October 15

Directed by Jerrold Tarog, the historical biopic marks the conclusion of the studio’s acclaimed Bayaniverse trilogy, following the groundbreaking Heneral Luna and the poignant Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral. This time, the spotlight turns to Manuel L. Quezon as he navigates the brutal game of politics during the American occupation, culminating in the historic 1935 presidential election.

At the grand media conference held on October 7 at The Manila Hotel, cast members and filmmakers shared their excitement for the project and the challenges of bringing such a towering historical figure to the big screen.

Jericho Rosales on Playing Quezon

For Jericho Rosales, stepping into the shoes of Quezon has been the most demanding role of his career:

“It is really challenging to the bone. Jerrold gave us a beautiful script—precise, brainy, exciting, even funny. The pressure was how do you play this huge personality? Someone who aspired for the presidency in the 1930s, with all his charm, charisma, and ambition. It’s the best and most challenging role I’ve ever played.”

The Youth Connection

Karylle, who also stars in the film, recalled the warmth of their provincial mall tour, where thousands of students joined the events:

“We had 1,200 students on the tour we have  in Candelaria, Quezon. Many of them were also talents in the film. You could really feel their love for Quezon and their courage in asking tough questions. It’s inspiring because the youth today are so knowledgeable and bold.”

A Blueprint for Politics

Benjamin Alves highlighted the film’s relevance to modern politics:

“What people will see in Quezon is a blueprint. The same political dynamics then are still happening now. For young audiences, this film gives enough courage and substance to critically question politics and find their own stance.”

History Repeats

For veteran actor Mon Confiado, the lessons of Quezon remain urgent:

“Politics then and now—walang pinagbago. It has always been run by the most powerful names and families. Quezon is important because history is important. We must learn from the past so we don’t repeat the same mistakes.”

A Cinematic Event

With world-class production design, a star-studded cast, and international screenings lined up, Quezon is not just a movie but a cinematic event. “We conceived Quezon as a big-screen spectacle to be fully appreciated in theaters,” shared TBA Studios President and COO Daphne O. Chiu-Soon.

Rated PG, the film is accessible for all audiences. Students and teachers can also enjoy a discounted ticket price of ₱250 nationwide by presenting a valid school ID.

After its Philippine release on October 15, Quezon will premiere internationally at the 45th Hawai’i International Film Festival and will be screened across the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the Middle East.
