Morissette Amon’s ‘Song of the Fireflies’ shines bright in this week’s film lineup

THE Filipino musical “Song of the Fireflies” leads the roster of films approved this week by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) for public exhibition.

The film, which won Best Picture at the 2025 Manila International Film Festival (MIFF), has received a PG (Parental Guidance) rating—making it ideal for family viewing.

Starring MIFF best actress and Asia’s Phoenix Morissette Amon, the film tells the origins of the Loboc Children’s Choir, and the role of its founder, Alma Taldo.

Also earning a PG rating is the American sports movie “F1,” starring Hollywood star Brad Pitt as a retired Formula One driver, who mentors a rookie race prodigy, and the musical, “Miley Cyrus: Something Beautiful,” which features the music and life of global pop icon Miley Cyrus.

Two other films were rated R-13 (Restricted-13), meaning they are suitable only for viewers aged 13 and above due to mature themes.

These include the locally-produced drama, “Unconditional,” starring Rhian Ramos and Allen Dizon, which explores themes of relational conflict and gender issues, and the American sci-fi horror “M3GAN 2.0,” which is about generative android to combat a humanoid military robot built using M3GAN's technology that is attempting an AI takeover.

“The Ritual,” an American horror based on a true story, was rated R-16 (Restricted-16) for 16 years old and above only.

The film tells of two priests attempting to put aside their differences to save an allegedly possessed young woman through a series of dangerous exorcisms.

MTRCB Chairperson and CEO Lala Sotto-Antonio encouraged the public to practice responsible viewing, especially when selecting movies for younger audiences.

“The MTRCB age-appropriate rating will guide and help our parents and supervising adults in making informed viewing choices for their families, especially their children,” said Sotto-Antonio.
