Internationally Acclaimed ‘’Song of the Fireflies’’ Makes Glowing Philippine Cinema Homecoming this June 25

After lighting up hearts in Hollywood, Song of the Fireflies is finally flying home for its most awaited homecoming to Philippine cinemas. Carrying with it a luminous story of resilience, hope, and the power of dreams, this award-winning film is set to move and uplift Filipino audiences starting June 25, 2025.

Marking a major milestone in her career, Asia’s Phoenix Morissette stars in her first major movie lead role as Ma’am Alma Taldo, the devoted founder of Bohol’s Loboc Children's Choir (LCC). Her deeply moving performance earned her a Best Actress recognition and a nomination for the Audience Choice Award at the 2025 Manila International Film Festival.

Song of the Fireflies is a tribute to the extraordinary journey of the Loboc Children’s Choir, which began in the 1980s in the quiet riverside town of Loboc, Bohol. Composed of children as young as 9 to 13 years old, the choir had to rise above poverty, limited resources, and natural calamities – all in pursuit of a single dream: to let their voices be heard beyond the walls of their classroom. Their dreams burned brightly, fanned by the steadfast guidance of their teacher, Ma’am Alma, and the unwavering support of Equet Butalid, a cultural advocate of Bohol who believed deeply in their talent.

Over the years, the choir’s dedication and extraordinary talent earned them well-deserved recognition both locally – where they were honored with the prestigious Gawad CCP Para sa Sining, the highest award given by the Cultural Center of the Philippines – and on the world stage, bringing home top honors from the European Folksongs Festival in Barcelona, Spain twice (in 1993 and 1995) and later claiming the coveted Gold Medal in the children’s choir category in 2001. Their inspiring journey proves that even the smallest voices can echo across the globe, and that no dream is ever too big when pursued with courage and heart. Mga munting tinig na may malalaking pangarap – these young singers didn’t just raise their voices to be heard, but to be truly believed in.

This film also stars Ms. Rachel Alejandro, Noel Comia Jr., Krystal Brimner, alongside Chai Fonacier, Via Antonio, Cai Cortez, Tommy Alejandrino, Alex Medina, and more. It features music by renowned composers Ryan Cayabyab, Louie Ocampo, Raimund Marasigan, Jazz Nicolas, and Krina Cayabyab. Directed by King Palisoc, the film is produced by Culturtain Musicat Productions with MQuest Ventures, in cooperation with Quezon City Film Development Commission, CMB Film Services, and Hartman Communications.

Song of the Fireflies swept the 2025 Manila International Film Festival with multiple wins: Audience Award for Best Picture, Best Actress (Morissette), Best Supporting Actress (Rachel Alejandro), Best Supporting Actor (Noel Comia Jr.), and a Special Award. It also won the Platinum Remi Award at the WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival.

This June 25, be part of this celebration of hope and dreams that light the way — Song of the Fireflies opens in cinemas nationwide.
