Movie Review: Abenida

Abe, a woodcarver and artist, loses everything when his wife leaves him for another man. He falls in love with a woman who looks like his wife and calls her by his wife's name Nida, when in reality she is a prostitute named Cecile.

"Abenida" is a visually stunning film that showcases the beauty of Paete Laguna and the art of wood carving, with standout performances from Allen Dizon and Katrina Halili. The film's nuance and symbolism make it a captivating watch, akin to reading a poem, and its exploration of the province's picturesque landscape is a highlight. Allen Dizon and Katrina Halili performance are standout in this film as you will keenly follow their characters as the story unfolds. Allen, as always deliver in his sensible performance with nuance acting with mental condition while Katrina on the other hand shines with the mystery she brings in the film. The wooden art showcases are also a notable aspect, adding color and life to the characters and serve as important characters as well in the film. Overall, "Abenida" is Louie Ignacio's best film as you can feel his love for art and craft for filmmaking in this film.
