Movie Review: Untrue

A bruised and beaten wife named Mara (Cristine Reyes) seeks the help of Georgian police against her husband Joachim (Xian Lim). In this He Said, She Said film, truths, lies and the dark past will be uncovered. Two lonely Filipinos living in the country of Georgia find solace and companionship in each other, until the strange apparition of a woman begins to haunt their relationship.

Untrue gave Xian Lim and Cristine Reyes their greatest performance in their acting career. This mind blowing psychological thriller is one of a kind Filipino film that raised the bar in Philippine film making and also match with the quality and look of international films. Xian Lim effectively captures his character as deeply damaged man beneath. While Cristine Reyes is believable in her role which is impressive given the setting and complex of her character. The series of "recreated" facts are expounded with enthusiasm and full of suspense to keep the audience interested throughout the film. The story itself is just so crazy that it makes for an engaging film.  As for the cinematography - it's crafty & careful, camera work and editing is swift and dynamic with production design and picturesque location that adds layer to the story. Full of mystery and intrigue, Untrue is a dark and provocative film, the plot takes a really interesting, surreal turn and tackles some controversial issues on the side. A highly recommended Filipino film and must watch when it have its commercial screening early next year. Untrue, I must say is the best psychological suspense thriller Filipino film in recent years.

My Verdict: 5/5
