Movie Review: On Vodka, Beers and Regrets

The movie follows the story of Jane Pineda, a washed up actress and former child star whose career hits rock bottom. Struggling to get movie roles and trying to escape from a big scandal, Jane seeks comfort in alcohol. Then one drunken night at a bar, she meets Francis, vocalist of a band. Suddenly, things started to change for Jane. She now finds comfort in Francis’ company. For his part, Francis, who’s with Jane drunk or sober, is more than willing to love her. But will his love be enough to keep Jane or will his love fall short and in the end, he will lose her?

On Vodka Beers and Regrets has been able to manage a stylish emotional film with feels that truly affect your heart. Bela Padilla & JC Santos nuances hints towards the generic messages and let the audience feels the learning with their characters. As expected, the two have an excellent and impressive chemistry together in this sincere romantic film that feels more real and mature than most films alike. Irene Villamor displays a talent to tell a powerful, simple story that definitely manages to stand out, breaks the cycle, and offers you something truly different. I love how the film integrate the elements of alcohol, emotions, love story and angst in life in one film. By telling a simple story, On Vodka goes a different route, and tells a real story that follows two people that can really be anyone. This film stands out among other genre films simply for the fact that it has a powerful story and great performances. It's cool and original musical scoring is lit, together with its sound that helps set the mood of each scene. The loss and desperation one feels clinging to unrequited love is perfectly illustrated through JC and Bela's performance, painting heartbreak from both perspectives. The realism and the feelings generated are truly noteworthy.  With a delightful soundtrack, well captured cinematography and unique screenplay,  On Voda, Beers and Regrets is definitely recommended.

My Verdict: 4/5
