Movie Review: Tayo Sa Wakas

“Tayo Sa Wakas” beautifully captures the painful yet heartfelt reality of growing together while slowly growing apart. The film follows Cisco and Cheska, played by Donny Pangilinan and Belle Mariano, a longtime workplace power couple whose relationship begins to struggle as their ambitions start leading them in different directions. What starts as a promised “breakup trip” becomes an emotional journey filled with honest conversations, buried frustrations, sacrifices, and realizations about love, career, and maturity.

What makes the film work so well is how relatable and grounded the story feels. It tackles the pressure of balancing love and career in a very realistic way, especially when one person begins to rise faster than the other. While the premise may seem familiar at first, the film presents it with sincerity, emotional depth, and the classic emotional touch that Star Cinema romance dramas are known for. The story flows naturally, allowing the audience to connect deeply with the characters and their struggles.

DonBelle’s chemistry remains undeniable. Belle Mariano once again proves how effective and emotionally expressive she is as an actress, delivering vulnerable and heartfelt moments effortlessly. Donny Pangilinan, meanwhile, is charming and convincing as a leading man, especially in the more emotional scenes where Cisco slowly unravels under the pressure of love and self-destruction. Together, they bring authenticity to the relationship, making the pain, affection, and tension between their characters feel genuine.

The supporting cast also deserves praise. Joross Gamboa delivers the warmth and natural humor expected from him, while his pairing with theater actor Jude Hinumdum brings a refreshing dynamic that adds even more heart to the film. Miah Canton, another talented theater actress who plays Belle’s best friend in the movie, is also a standout, bringing charm and sincerity to every scene. River Joseph showed noticeable improvement in his acting performance and brought likability to his role, while Emilio Daez added charisma and screen presence that perfectly fit the youthful energy of the cast.

Visually, the film is also stunning. The mountain and provincial locations create such a comforting and emotional atmosphere that perfectly matches the tone of the story. The cold scenery, road trip moments, and quiet conversations make the emotional beats hit even harder.

More than just a romance film, “Tayo Sa Wakas” is about sacrifices, timing, ambition, and the difficult decisions couples face when life starts pulling them in different directions. It’s emotional, relatable, and genuinely touching. The film may leave you teary-eyed, but it also reminds you that love is not only about staying together — sometimes it’s also about understanding each other, growing individually, and choosing whether a relationship is still worth fighting for.

A heartfelt and emotionally engaging romance drama that DonBelle fans and even casual viewers can easily connect with.

My Verdict: 4/5
