MTRCB completes review for all 8 MMFF entries

EXACTLY two weeks before Christmas, the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB), under the leadership of Chairperson and CEO Lala Sotto, completed on Thursday, December 11, the review and classification of the eight official entries to the much-awaited 2025 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).

“This is a testament to our dedication and strong support for local films by providing age-appropriate ratings. MMFF is not just a festival, it is a celebration of the creativity, heart and value of Filipino storytelling,” said Sotto.

This year’s entries are ideal for family viewing, with the majority earning G and PG ratings, indicating suitability for children, provided they are accompanied by parents or guardians.

The romantic, “I’m Perfect,” directed by Sigrid Bernardo under Nathan Studios, received a G rating (General Audience), making it suitable for all ages. The film centers on the romantic relationship of two adults with Down syndrome.

The comedy-drama, “Bar Boys: After School,” a sequel to the 2017 film, “Bar Boys,” is rated PG. Starring Carlo Aquino, Rocco Nacino, Enzo Pineda and Kean Cipriano, the film directed by Kip Oebanda under 901 Studios Inc., is set 10 years after the first film and explores the lives of the characters after graduation.

A PG rating allows children below 13 years old to watch but with parental supervision.

Also rated PG is “Call Me Mother,” starring Vice Ganda and Nadine Lustre, directed by Jun Robles Rana and produced by ABS-CBN Film Productions, The IdeaFirst Company and Viva Communications, Inc.

It follows a queer single mother who plans to adopt her adoptive son, but the process becomes complicated when the boy’s biological mother unexpectedly shows up.

Another PG rated entry is the romantic, “Love You So Bad,” directed by Mae Cruz-Alviar featuring Will Ashley, Dustin Yu and Bianca De Vera.

Produced by ABS-CBN Film Productions, GMA Pictures and Regal Entertainment, it tells the story of a young girl who finds herself torn between two young men.

The crime-thriller, “Manila’s Finest,” starring Piolo Pascual, Enrique Gil, Romnic Sarmenta, Ariel Rivera and Joey Marquez, and directed by Raymond Red, also received a PG rating.

Produced by Cignal TV and MQuest Ventures, the film is set in 1969 and follows a group of Manila police officers.

The family-drama, “Rekonek,” directed by Jade Castro under Reality MM Studios, also earned a PG rating. The film explores how six different families cope with a global internet outage 10 days before Christmas.

The cast include Gerald Anderson, Bela Padilla, Andrea Brillantes, Charlie Dizon, Zoren Legaspi, Carmina Villarroel, Cassy Legaspi, Mavy Legaspi and Gloria Diaz.

“Unmarry,” starring Angelica Panganiban and Zanjoe Marudo, directed by Jeffrey Jeturian and produced under Quantum Films and Cineko Films, has been rated PG.

The film follows a couple, who separately process the dissolution of their marriage through annulment.

Meanwhile, the horror anthology, “Shake, Rattle and Roll: Evil Origins,” produced by Regal Entertainment and the 17th installment in the iconic film series, received an R-13 rating, restricting admission to viewers aged 13 and up.

The film explores mature themes through the narrative of a fictional malevolent character that traverses three distinct stories.

Sotto encourages Filipino families to support all MMFF films this Christmas season, noting that each entry offers a unique viewing experience that highlights the richness of Filipino creativity.

Ngayong darating na pasko, mas nagiging masaya ang pagpunta sa sinehan dahil pagkakataon ito para magkasama-sama ang pamilya. I encourage everyone to support all MMFF entries and celebrate the creativity of our filmmakers. Sama-sama po nating ipagdiwang ang galing ng pelikulang Pilipino,” said Sotto.
