Movie Review: Ang Hapis at Himagsik ni Hermano Puli

Ang Hapis at Himagsik ni Hermano Puli (The Agony and Fury of Hermano Puli) is a historical drama based on the life and times of Apolinario de la Cruz, who led a revolt in 1841 against the Spanish colonial government in the Philippines in the name of religious freedom.
The film shines a light on his place in Philippine history, which is largely forgotten outside of his hometown of Lucban and the province of Quezon (formerly Tayabas).

The redeeming factor of the film is its production value that benefits a lot from good cinematography and production design. This film let us know and  remind the story of one of the significant person who led the retaliation to the racism of the Roman Catholic Church in the Philippines during the Spanish colonial period. Aljur Abrenica's acting improved in this film and was supported by good bunch of new breed of actors including his brother Vin Abrenica, Enzo Pineda and Marki Stroem. So if you want to take a look back on one of the story of our historical epic you may consider watching this.

My Verdict: 3/5
