Movie Review: Maleficent

“Maleficent” is the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the 1959 classic “Sleeping Beauty.” A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land’s fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal—an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king’s successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom—and perhaps to Maleficent’s true happiness as well.

I love this film. Binali ng pelikulang ito ang traditional fairy tale that we used to have. In this film it is Sleeping Beauty. Pinakita dito ang story ng villain on her point of view. Binali yung story pero andun pa din yung puso, fairy tale at kid element ng pelikula. Screenplay of the film is superb. I like the twist that they did on the original story. Bawat eksena ay kaabang abang at di mo palalampasin. Special effects and production design is also commendable for this film. Napakahusay. Napakalinis ng pagkakagawa ng effects. Truly na mageenjoy ang mga bata sa panonood nito. Maski ako na adult ay naentertain sa panonood ng pelikulang ito.

Ofcourse Angelina Jolie deserves an applause for this film. She owns Maleficent. Napakahusay niya. Another bida kontrabida role for her na najustify niya ang character. I also like to commend her make-up and wardrobe for the film. No wonder the film occupy half of the cinemas in malls due to its artistic merit and audience appeal. For sure this will break box office records in the Philippines around 300-400 million gross. Ngayun na lang ule ako nakapanood ng Hollywood film na sobrang natuwa ako. Parang bumalik yung mga childhood memories ko. I did not expect na magugustuhan ko siya at ginulat talaga ako ng pelikulang ito. Sobrang nagustuhan ko talaga ang pelikula and because of that, Maleficent will be the first film that I will give a perfect rating for this year. I will recommend this film for the kids. Truly a quality twisted fairy tale film that you should not miss this this summer.

My Verdict:  5/5
