Philippine National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts Ms. Nora Aunor is returning to the big screen in the highly anticipated horror film “Mananambal” after receiving age-appropriate classification from the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board.
Set in the province of Siquijor, the movie earned an R-13 (Restricted 13) rating suitable for 13 years old and above only. The story explores the repercussions of exploiting sacred traditions, with Aunor portraying Lucia, a healer whose powers lead to unintended consequences.
The same R-13 rating was also given to “Lisik Origin Point,” a local film about surviving a zombie apocalypse and “Cleaner,” a British action thriller about an ex-soldier who attempts to save 300 hostages inside a high-rise building.
R-16 was given to the horror “The Monkey,” suitable for 16 years old and above due to frightening scenes, violence, gore, and language.
Meanwhile, a mix of drama, fantasy, action, and music are served by four films also premiering this week with PG rating (Parental Guidance), perfect for family viewing.
- “White Snake: Afloat,” a Chinese animated film about a white snake named Xiaobai who finds Xu Xian, the reincarnation of Axuan, after 500 years.
- “Homestead,” an American post-apocalyptic drama that will tell even in the face of extreme hardship and societal collapse, compassion, faith, and community are essential for survival.
- “Room Next Door,” a story about acceptance, and a deeper understanding of life's preciousness; and
- “Red Velvet Happiness Diary: My Dear, ReVe1uv,” A concert film that beautifully captures the precious memories shared between Red Velvet and ReVeluv over a decade.
MTRCB Chairperson and CEO Lala Sotto-Antonio advises parents and supervising adults that under PG, “children 12 years old and below are allowed to watch and enjoy the film with the supervision of parents or guardians.”
The Board encourages audiences to continue supporting films receiving age-appropriate classification this week, emphasizing that all movies classified by the MTRCB are not only entertaining but also safe to watch by different age groups.
