As a pre-Chinese New Year treat, Filipino audiences can look forward to six diverse films offering a mix of drama, thrill and romance as the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) gave all of them an age-appropriate classification.
The local family drama “Her Locket,” based on a true story, was classified as PG (Parental Guidance).
The film, winner of eight awards at the Sinag Maynila Film Festival in September 2024, tells the story of a Chinese woman suffering from dementia, but who is able to gradually recall memories from her past with the aid of a locket necklace.
MTRCB Chairperson and CEO Lala Sotto-Antonio, emphasized the important role of parental guidance to children, especially for scenes that might affect their behaviors.
“While some scenes might depict sensitive topics, parents should be prepared to discuss these issues with their children,” Sotto-Antonio said. “Our age-appropriate ratings serve as a guide to help families make informed choices and promote responsible viewing habits among their kids.”
For audiences seeking a more intense cinematic experience, the thriller “Presence” from Pioneer Films, delivers impactful scenes suited for an R-13 classification, catering to 13 year old and above.
Other R-13 offerings are “Flight Risk,” “Death Whisperer 2” and the animated adventure film “Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom.”
The romance-comedy “Anora” written by Sean Baker was rated R-18 for sexual content, nudity and language not suited for viewers below eighteen years of age.
