Thrillers are set to dominate cinema screens this week as the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) approved suspense-filled movies in time for the Halloween.
“Talahib,” a horror-adventure about a paranormal killing in the grass fields, received an R-13 from MTRCB Board Members (BMs) Eloisa Matias, Antonio Reyes and Fernando Prieto.
The Marvel comics character film, “Venom: The Last Dance,” a sequel to “Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage,” and the fifth film in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe series, also earned R-13 ratings like the sci-fi, “The Fix,” from Pioneer Films.
R-13 films prohibit children aged 12 and below from watching due to mature themes, language and violence.
The Indonesian horror-thriller, “Vina: Before 7 Days,” based on a true story, received an R-16 (Restricted-16) rating from BMs Reyes, Jan Marini Alano and Richard Reynoso.
“Alice” also got an R-16 due to sex scenes, nudity, violence, gore and cursing.
Another local film, “Friendly Fire,” an e-sports-centric film from Black Cap Pictures, which premiered at the Hawaii International Film Festival, received a PG (Parental Guidance) rating.
Also rated PG were “Panda Plan,” starring Jackie Chan, and “The Colors Within” from Japan. A PG rating requires viewers below thirteen years old to be accompanied by a parent or a guardian.
MTRCB Chairperson and CEO Lala Sotto-Antonio emphasized the agency’s pivotal role in ensuring that all materials submitted for review and classification are aligned under Presidential Decree No. 1986.
“We follow a seven-point framework and, most importantly, we always apply the contemporary cultural Filipino values when reviewing films,” Sotto-Antonio said.
