Amir, a 17-year-old Moro child soldier whose father was killed in
all-out war in 2000, dreams to live a different life – he wants to
become a baseball player. Training extensively with his coach, he makes
it to the final tryout of a local university. Unfortunately, another
all-out war against Moro rebels breaks out in 2003, and he is confronted
with making a choice between pursuing his dream or fighting in the war.
The Baseball Player has a beautiful story to tell that in war no one win. A deep character study of a powerful story on
what war can
do to someone. Simple yet effective with its good screenplay. The performance of the leads Tommy Alejandrino and JM Sanjose is just right to capture the emotion of their characters.
In this film, it succeeds in less is more and the heart of the story is powerful enough to convey its message
My Verdict: 4/5
