A powerful voice for a powerful anthem.
Asia’s Phoenix Morissette pulled out all the stops for her newest single “Power,” a soaring anthem on claiming strength in femininity.
She first performed the song on April 30 at the 2022 Miss Universe Philippines Coronation Night. Since then, “Power” has garnered clamor for release, with many fans across social media touting it as “a perfect Miss Universe anthem” that can be used in the main coronation night.
The track, released under Empire Records, is now available on all streaming platforms. It was composed by Kiko Salazar, who wrote Morissette’s iconic hit “Akin Ka Na Lang.”
“The song is a celebration, celebrating the capability and strength of a woman. It was specifically written for the woman empowerment segment on 2022 Miss Universe PH,” Salazar said.
“The concept came from Jonas Gaffud after he decided to put a segment on Miss Universe PH for Women Empowerment. He wanted something that’s uplifting and unexpected from a pageant. With this song, I want to tell women that you have all the right to dream of and live the life that you want, regardless of society’s dictates and standards. Fly high!” Salazar added.
Morissette said she felt honored and privileged to be chosen to sing the song, especially since she performed “Power” in front of all the candidates and four Miss Universe titleholders.
Sharing a fun fact, Morissette said performing “Power” at the Miss Universe Philippines coronation night was the first time she debuted a song even before finishing the studio recording.
“It’s never not an exciting collaboration with The Kiko Salazar. I’ve been able to put out a bunch of songs with him from “Akin Ka Na Lang” to “Panaginip” to some of the songs from my Signature EP. I’m very grateful to him that he gave me freedom to interpret it on my own during that performance,” Morissette added.
Morissette, who is celebrating her 12th anniversary in show business, got her big break after finishing in the top 8 of ABS-CBN's “The Voice Philippines: Season 1.” In 2017, she represented the Philippines in the 14th Asia Song Festival in Busan, South Korea and returned the following year for the 15th Asia Song Festival.
Since then, she has been called “Asia’s Phoenix” for her soaring performances. Morissette is currently a “Jukeboss” (judge) in the TV5 show “Sing Galing Kids,” with new episodes every Saturday at 6 p. m.
