Phone calls shatter the blissful, simple life of four childhood friends. Sworn to always look out for each other, Elias and his three best friends start each day with phone calls before heading out to a new adventure. But when Ted, an outsider, takes a vacation in their quaint village, it triggers a change within Elias. Distraught and confused, he seeks comfort among his friends until he gradually accepts the truth about his identity. All seems good and well until that dreaded day — and the news that came with it.
Children of the River surprise me with its charm. The film work on some of the scenes especially on how their throw humor on traditional belief on albularyo. The chemistry of the four kids Noel Comia Jr., Ricky Oriarte, Dave Justin Francis, and Junyka Santarin works well and definitely the saving grace of the film. Despite some of the technical flaws and amateurish treatment on acting and production value, I appreciate the film’s attempt on telling a province story highlighting family and friendships. Noel Comia Jr. delivers another sensible performance in this film. I appreciate how he approach his character and the sexual tension between him and Juancho Trivinio in this film is real.
My Verdict: 3/5
