Movie Review: Belle Douleur

To find happiness, a woman breaks free from the confines that society puts on women. Liz, a 45-year-old, single clinical psychologist, finds herself alone and resigned to a solitary life after her parents who she spent her adult life looking after passed away. Through her friends’ advice, Liz begins downsizing her home and meets Josh, a young antique dealer who has has been living on his own for years after losing his father and grandfather, and without much memory of his mother.  With their loneliness drawing them together, Liz and Josh create a special bond.

Belle Douleur is a simple poignant May-December romance love story that effectively capture the heart of the audience. With is beautiful picturesque cinematography, it feels like watching a moving painting. Mylene Dizon and Kit Thompson blends well on the screen and gave each other a chance to deliver their decent performance. Definitely a good actor is born in this film with Kit Thompson and Mylene Dizon just gave us another memorable acting piece in Belle Douleur. The technical excellence is pretty obvious in this film from sound, musical scoring and editing which are well applauded. Even the supporting cast Marlon Rivera and Jenny Jamora are good in this film and I love how their story was laid in subtle for the film. What makes this different to other May December film or series is its being sensible to its story wherein it has a heart and a decent character study of the two leads and has a fair of share of story to tell. This film shows us how to love ourselves, despite our age and level in the society.

My Verdict:  4/5
