Movie Review: Arisaka

The film follows a policewoman who has to retrace the route of the Bataan Death March to escape her captors. A witness under police escort is attacked. A policewoman, the only one who survives, is sheltered by indigenous people, but assailants hunt her down.

Finally a good Filipino film this 2021. Arisaka is a well made Filipino revenge survival genre. It shines with is good cinematography, detailed production design, effective sound design
and great performance from the cast. The cinematography is really good wherein they maximize the location and each scene is like a moving canvas that is well painted. The symbolism, political undertone and multi layers of the story are well integrated to tell its relevant and powerful message. You will feel so attached and interesting while the story progress and keep you on the edge of your seat as the suspense elevated towards the end. Maja Salvador gave her solid performance as the female action heroine that standout not only with her action scenes but also in her silent moments. She does not have much dialogue in the film but her acting speaks so much towards women empowerment. Newbie actress Shella Mae Romulado gave her raw performance that match the innocence of her character while Mon Confiado is as always an effective villain for this film. Kudos to the whole team for mounting this film and they are successful in giving us a large scale and different kind of Filipino film in time of pandemic. Overall, Arisaka is one of the best film I've watched this 2021.

My Verdict: 5/5
