Movie Review: Kintsugi

Kintsugi refers to a unique Japanese method of repairing broken porcelain, wherein shards are reattached with gold. Filmed in Saga, Japan, the film follows the story a Filipino OFW factory worker who develops a close bond with his employer’s daughter.

The quietness of the film mirrors the location of the film in which it doesn't need to be talky to tell the story, yet you will feel on the characters, cinematography and production design what they want to tell. I can say as well that Kintsugi is a different OFW film that does not dwell mostly on melodramatic acting and poverty porn story yet gave us an insight on how does it feel on working abroad away from your family. I like the fusion of loneliness, romance, family ties and tradition in this film on how it was interconnected and naturally implied to the flow of the story. JC Santos and the Japanese actress Hiro Nishiuchi are good in the film
and match with their characters. Phi Palmos is also good as a support that brings light and fun to the film. Overall Kintsugi is a movie of feelings  and of words left unsaid. It is both visually beautiful and emotionally moving.

My Verdict: 3.5/5
