Still Human stars Filipino Actress Crisel Consunji

Filipina actress Crisel Consunji is coming home to Manila for the special screening of her film “Still Human” at Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival 2019, as a non-competing entry. The film will have a Cinemalaya screening on August 9, 6:15PM at CCP Little Theatre.

Still Human, the buzzy film about the relationship between a middle-aged disabled man from Hong Kong and a Filipino domestic worker has been showing in limited screenings in Hong Kong since its November 6 premiere at the Hong Kong Asian Film Festival.

A paralyzed and hopeless divorcé, Cheong-wing (Anthony Wong) is in need of a caretaker. He meets his new live-in Filipino domestic helper, Evelyn (Crisel Consunji), who has put her dream on hold to come to Hong Kong to earn a living. Living under the same roof, these two strangers develop an unlikely relationship. As they get to learn more about each other, they also rediscover themselves – Cheong- wing begins to reconnect with his estranged son; Evelyn reignites her dream of being a photographer. Together, they help each other through ups and downs, twists and turns, love and loss and experience the different seasons of life. Just when they think they have lost all hope, little do they know, life still has a lot to offer.

The film only started to gain more widespread attention in the run-up to the ceremony, where it nabbed awards for Best New Director for Oliver Chan Siu-kuen, Best Actor for Anthony Wong Chau-sang, and Best New Performer for Crisel Consunji, the first Philippine-born actor to be honored by the awards association.

Consunji’s own narrative begins with a stage career during childhood that took root with Manila’s Repertory Philippines theatre group. Film, back then, was never a factor.

At 23, Consunji moved to Hong Kong to take up a role at Disneyland and she would perform there for around three years in such productions as High School Musical.
