Rafa Siguion-Reyna and Nathalie Hart Star In Historical Mossaic Film - Historiographika Errata - Cinema One Originals Official Entry 2017

Richard Somes, of “Yanggaw,” “Ishmael” and “Mariposa” fame, returns to Cinema One for his fourth outing in the festival, with “Historiographika Errata,” an elaborate historical mosaic that attempts to figure out why we are what we are, throwing in the mix a suicidal Rizal, a cross-dressing Bonifacio and the widow who became the first Makapili. The sprawling, ambitious film features Joem Bascon, Alex Medina, Maxine Eigenmann and Nathalie Hart.

Rafa Siguion-Reyna and Nathalie Hart talk about their journey and challenges in doing a non typical history film.

The 13th Cinema One Originals runs from November 13-21 at Trinoma, Glorietta, Gateway, UP Cine Adarna, Cinema 76 and Cinematheque with an extended run from November 22-28 at the Power Plant Mall.

Direk Richard Somes believes rockstars are natural actors

 By Archie Liao

“Gusto kasi namin ng writer ko to come up with something, with a film na different from other historical films na nagawa na,” ani Direk Richard. “It’s actually about misprints in history. There are some historical errors that we tackle sa film, but we just want to tackle the lighter side of history. Iyong mga historical facts na kung totoo siya o hindi, kung fiction siya o hindi just like iyong journey ni Rizal sa Berlin, iyong journey ng mga Katipuneros and at the same time iyong pag-open ng American at Japanese war in the Philippines,”pahabol niya. Nilinaw naman niya na hindi ito isang dokumentaryo.

“It’s not a docu but a story in four parts. I have Joem Bascon, Maxene Eigenmann, Nathalie Hart, Alex Vincent Medina, Jess Mendoza, Rafa Siguion Reyna as my stars. What’s exciting about it is I cast also the rock icons of the ‘90s like Basti Artadi ng Wolfgang, Jet Pangan ng The Dawn, Robert Javier ng The Youth, Kevin Roy ng Razorback, Kean Cipriano ng Calla Lilly at Chicoy Pura ng The Jerks,” kuwento niya.

“Acting piece iyong film. What I really want to get sa mga rockstars, kasi is that they’re already comfortable performing. They’re playing character roles. Siyempre, mas dynamic ang eksena at fresh, mas maganda ang collaboration kapag fresh faces. It is nice to discover also that rock stars are very much natural as actors,” paliwanag niya. Hindi rin daw pulitikal ang pelikula. “No political statement sa film na ito but it’s just that we just look at the bright side, poignant and irreverent side ng history at sa lives ng mga heroes natin,” hirit niya.

“There’s basis in history in terms of milieu, but most of the scenes, ginawa lang ng writer namin as a fiction. Kumbaga, ito iyong version namin ng history,” sey niya. “Episodic din siya in a way, kasi may Rizal, Bonifacio, Macario Sakay at mga Katipuneros played by the rock stars,” dugtong niya.

“The humor, the satire background ng film, doon sila makaka-relate. You could also contemplate what’s now and before pag nagre-reflect na iyong past and present,” pagwawakas niya.
