Movie Review: Bambanti

The search for a missing watch instigates the painful quest for the truth in Belyn’s and her son’s life.

This warm, compromising piece of film making finds Zig Dulay in a same mood from his earlier films as a writer and director. A powerful, realistic drama about a mother and son which are victim on injustice and slander in the province background by the Bambanti/Scarecrow festival.

This is not only a closely observed psychological portrait of typical family in the province but more than that, a moving social study of penury at work destroying the fabric of a family. The film also gave a visual treat that captures the scenic spot in Luna, Isabela enhanced by a balanced color-grading and finest performance from Alessandra De Rossi that deserves a best actress award and supported by great actors in this film.

Overall the film is simple yet got powerful narrative and most of all revelatory and quietly disturbing. A must see film in Sinag Maynila 2015 Film Festival.

My Verdict: 5/5
