MTRCB gives go signal for ‘Moana,’ horror, Robin Hood adventure films this week

The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has released its rating for three exciting films that will hit theaters this week.

Young viewers and those who are young at heart will surely enjoy the live action adaptation of Disney’s “Moana,” which stars Catherine Lagai’aia in her debut as Moana and Dwayne Johnson, who is reprising his role as the demigod Maui.

This version of “Moana,” which is the first live action adaptation of the fantasy adventure tale and the third installment in the Moana franchise, was given a PG (Parental Guidance) rating by the MTRCB.

It said the film, although generally wholesome, has “mature themes and scenes involving rebelliousness or disobedience towards parental control which would be better appreciated by young audiences if viewed with adult guidance and supervision.”

Those who are into horror movies may prefer “Evil Dead Burn,” a supernatural horror film which is part of the “Evil Dead” universe.

It features Souheila Yacoub, Hunter Doohan, Luciane Buchanan, Tandi Wright, Erroll Shand, Maude Davey, and several others.

The MTRCB gave “Evil Dead Burn” an R-18 rating, noting its “graphic horror and intense depiction of frightening scenes and gore.”

It added that the R-18 rating ensures that “the film’s explicit violence and visceral body horror are strictly kept away from younger audiences.”

Meanwhile, movie lovers, who prefer tales of drama and adventure, may like “The Death of Robin Hood,” a dark adaptation of the 17th century ballad, “Robin Hood’s Death.”

Starring Hugh Jackman as an aged Robin Hood and Bill Skarsgard, the MTRCB gave it an R-16 rating for its “graphic but non-gratuitous depiction of violence, gore, and themes” that may not be suitable for children aged 16 years old and below.

A rating of G or General Audience means that a film is appropriate to be shown to audiences of all ages, while a PG rating or Parental Guidance means that a parent or guardian should be present to help guide and supervise younger viewers.

An R-13 rating means that a film is appropriate for moviegoers aged 13 and up, while R-16 movies are meant for audiences aged 16 or older. A movie with an R-18 rating should only be shown to adult audiences.

MTRCB Chair Lala Sotto reminded parents and guardians who will bring their children to cinemas this week to keep the Board’s classification ratings in mind.

This is especially as some of this week’s offerings have mature themes and depictions of violence that may not be appropriate for younger viewers.
