The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) is inviting Filipino filmgoers of all ages to enjoy upcoming, exciting movies that have been classified for release in cinemas nationwide this week.
For children and the young at heart, there is Minions and Monsters - an animated comedy film which received a PG (Parental Guidance) rating. The latest installment in the Despicable Me franchise features the voices of Steve Carrell and Pierre Coffin.
Moviegoers who are into suspense-filled thrillers may enjoy The Black Box, which stars Fabian Arnold and which was rated R-13.
For action movie enthusiasts, they may watch The Furious – a martial arts action film featuring Sahajak Boonthanakit that received a R-16 rating from the MTRCB.
Those who prefer horror films may watch Leviticus, which stars Joe Bird and Stacey Clausen. Leviticus was also given an R-16 rating and will be shown exclusively in SM Cinemas.
In a statement, MTRCB Chairperson and CEO Lala Sotto urged the public to be guided by the Board’s classification ratings as they flock to movie theaters this week.
“Nais naming ipaalaala sa mga magulang na pumili ng pelikulang angkop para sa kanilang pamilya sa pamamagitan ng pagtingin sa ratings na iginagawad ng MTRCB,” Sotto said.
“Ito ay para matiyak na ang content na panonoorin ng mga miyembro ng ating pamilya ay akma para sa kanilang edad at antas ng pang-unawa,” she added.
A rating of G or General Audience means that a film is appropriate to be shown to audiences of all ages, while a PG rating or Parental Guidance means that a parent or guardian should be present to help guide and supervise younger viewers.
An R-13 rating means that a film is appropriate for moviegoers aged 13 and up, while R-16 movies are meant for audiences aged 16 or older. A movie with an R-18 rating should only be shown to adult audiences.
The MTRCB Chair reminded the public to take a quick look at the MTRCB’s ratings for movies lined up for this week before buying their tickets.
She also called on Filipino moviegoers to support films being shown in theaters nationwide, which tell a wide range of engaging stories for both young and old film lovers.
“Ang mga pelikulang ito ay hindi lamang naglalahad ng iba’t ibang kwento, kung di maaari ding kapulutan ng aral basta’t may tama at akmang pag-gabay ng ating mga magulang,” Sotto added.
