Jeric Gonzales Takes the Lead in New Family Drama “Graduation Day”

We attended the advance screening and mediacon of the upcoming film Graduation Day, a heartfelt family drama produced by BenTria Productions and directed by Dante Balboa.

The film stars Jeric Gonzales alongside veteran actress Elizabeth Oropesa, with supporting performances from Simon Ibarra, Rico Barrera, Angellie Sanoy, Aidan Veneracion, Mygz Molino, Khysia Francisco, Panteen Palanca, and Daniela Carolino.

Graduation Day tells a simple yet meaningful story about dreams, family, and perseverance. At the center of the film is the touching relationship between a grandson (Jeric Gonzales) and his supportive grandmother (Elizabeth Oropesa). The story highlights how the grandmother continues to believe in her grandchild’s dreams despite the many challenges and hardships that come along the way.

More than just a story about finishing school, the film reflects on life itself—how people face struggles, make difficult choices, and continue to fight for their aspirations. It reminds viewers that while life may bring many trials, the decisions we make ultimately shape our future and define who we become.

For Jeric Gonzales, the film became an opportunity to further prove his range and capability as an actor. Throughout the movie, he delivers emotionally grounded performances, especially in his scenes with Elizabeth Oropesa. The veteran actress provides a strong presence, and their on-screen chemistry adds depth to the story’s emotional core, particularly during the film’s heavier dramatic moments.

According to director Dante Balboa, parts of the film were inspired by his own life experiences. Balboa, a former actor and educator who studied filmmaking, infused the story with philosophical reflections about human life, dreams, and perseverance.

The film’s story, screenplay, and direction were all handled by Balboa. Cinematography is by TM Malones, with Dennis Evangelista serving as line producer. Editing was done by John Anthony L. Wong, while Jose Abdel Langit served as associate director. The film is executive produced by Engr. Benjamin Austria, who also produced Broken Blooms, Huwag Mo Kong Iwan, and Fatherland.

Adding another personal touch to the project is the film’s theme song, “Basta’t May Pananalig Sa Kanya.” The song was written by Dante Balboa together with Simon Peter Tan, who also arranged the track. It is performed by Jeric Gonzales himself, giving the film an even more heartfelt connection to its lead star.

Graduation Day is set to open in cinemas starting March 18.
