Puregold CinePanalo best film “Under a Piaya Moon” to screen director’s cut at Power Plant Mall on July 21

Outside of Bacolod representation, the movie deals with serious themes like grief, loss, gentrification, and persevering together with your family.

The award-winning directorial debut of Kurt Soberano, “Under a Piaya Moon,” is returning to cinemas with a screening at Power Plant Mall on July 21. However, even fans that already enjoyed the film in its initial run as part of the Puregold CinePanalo Film Festival will want to catch this latest screening as it will feature Kurt Soberano’s director’s cut of the film.

This director’s cut promises to be an even more polished and refined version of the film. Fans can look forward to an additional scene, changes in some of the film’s musical score, as well as cleaner shots that remove blemishes from the initial cut. These changes bring the film even closer to Kurt Soberano’s definitive vision of “Under a Piaya Moon.”

The movie has its dialogue spoken entirely in Hiligaynon, and is peppered with many tiny references that native Ilonggos will understand and appreciate

For his performance in the film, leading man Jeff Moses won the 2024 Puregold CinePanalo Best Actor Award.

Since its debut, the film has been a critical and commercial hit. It was the most awarded film in the inaugural Puregold CinePanalo Film Festival line up. “Under a Piaya Moon” took home eight awards including Pinakapanalong Mahabang Pelikula (Best Full-Length Film), Panalong Aktor for Jeff Moses (Best Actor), Panalong Pangalawang Aktor for Joel Torre (Best Supporting Actor), a Mowelfund Special Citation, MTRCB Responsableng Paglikha, Panalo sa Cinematography, Panalo sa Editing, and Panalo sa Production Design.

After its debut in the Puregold CinePanalo, Soberano’s film went on to have an incredibly successful run in the director’s native province of Negros. Soberano’s detailed and heart-felt love letter to the Negrenese culture drew the locals of Bacolod out in droves to see the film in cinemas.

“In this cinematic exploration, we invite our audience to savor the flavors of our heritage, to immerse themselves in the richness of our traditions,” said Soberano of the film’s cultural themes.

This latest screening at Power Plant Mall is a prime chance for cinephiles that have yet to see “Under a Piaya Moon” to finally experience the film. At the same time, those that have already seen the film get to discover it anew thanks to Soberano’s latest changes to the film.

“Discovering ‘Under a Piaya Moon’ through the Puregold CinePanalo was one of the highlights of our inaugural film festival run,” said Ivy Hayagan-Piedad, senior marketing for Puregold and Puregold CinePanalo festival director. “We at Puregold are proud to see the film blossom and take on a life of its own beyond the festival.”
