Movie Review: My Father, Myself

Robert and his wife have a daughter and an adopted son, Matthew, whose biological father is Robert’s deceased best friend and former lover, Domeng. Conflict ensues as Robert becomes sexually attracted to a teenage Matthew while Matthew impregnates his stepsister much to the shame of the family matriarch.

A lawyer takes in the son of his former client after surviving a massacre. Soon, the complicated relationships between the family members would lead to the revelation of shocking secrets and harbored feelings.

A bold and brave story of love. The four leads are competent in their role and give high emotion to their characters. You will see a different Jake Cuenca in this film. He delivers a different kind of acting that may give him an acting nod. Sean De Guzman is promising. After doing several films in Vivamax, that gave him training ground to hone his skill in acting. I can say that he is a strong contender for best supporting actor. Dimples Romana is as ever a reliable actress and delivers in this film. So if you want to watch a different kind of film with a taboo story, you may consider watching My Father, Myself.

My Verdict: 3/5
