In
dreary Porac Pampanga, a young man, Daniel (John Lloyd Cruz), abandons
his motherland after winning the biggest cash prize in the history of
Philippine lottery. Five years later, he is searching for home and
redemption through the people that make up his past. With each visit,
his story unfolds like the last digit of a winning combination.
Moneyslapper is a thought-provoking revenge film intertwining social commentary with a captivating narrative set against the backdrop of the Philippines. It is a one of a kind revenge film that is full of social commentary on the Philippines. John Lloyd Cruz delivers a fine performance, owning the film and making him the star of the show. Jasmine Curtis and Lav Diaz provide noteworthy supporting roles that enhance the impact of the film. There is a lot of symbolism in the film that you can definitely spot and reflect on. Overall, Moneyslapper is a standout offering at the QCinema 2024 Film Festival.
My Verdict: 4/5
